The Port Kennedy Veterinary Hospital (PKVH) Work Experience Program is for students, who are interested in pursuing a career in animal care or veterinary nursing and to gain experience working with animals and discover an entry point into the animal care industry.
Preference will be given to students completing their Certificate IV in Nursing either through AVT (Applied Vocational Training) or Polytechnic West (TAFE).
Students enrolled in a TAFE Certificate II Animal Studies or Certificate III Animal Companion Services course will also be given consideration depending on availability of work experience positions at PKVH.
Placements are generally for minimum period of 5 weeks depending on course requirements.
You will develop the skills and knowledge required for the care and maintenance of animals.
You will be able to handle a range of animals, feed and water them, complete animal care hygiene routines, assist in the health care of animals and communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues.
Work experience in an animal care workplace will give you the opportunity to practice the skills you have learnt during your studies. Many students who choose to participate in work experience with us may have aspirations to be veterinarians, vet nurses, animal attendants or work in some other animal related industry.
Students considering a work experience placement are welcomed to make enquiries via our website or alternatively, by contacting Laura-Lee Edge, Senior Veterinary Nurse & Work Experience Co-coordinator, on email: firstname.lastname@example.org
You will need to include a copy of your resume, the preferred placement dates, a brief overview outlining what your expectations and requirements are that will need to be met from the placement and any further needs required by the relative AVT or TAFE body. We will then make contact with you to discuss future placement opportunities.
